We’re proud to feature NUMBERS, the debut Afro House/Afro Tech release by NOCOLOUR, on our webzine—a high-quality release that sets a strong precedent for the duo’s future. NOCOLOUR is the collaborative project of German producer Marcus Voss and Cuban-born Will Hernandez, two friends whose love for global rhythm and soul translates beautifully into this refined and deeply textured EP.
From the first track, it’s clear that NUMBERS is built with intent and precision. The rhythms are organic yet tight, pulling from Afro House traditions while embracing a modern electronic sensibility. The percussion is stripped-back in all the right ways—never cluttered, always intentional—leaving space for the groove to breathe and evolve naturally. There’s a tangible warmth in every element, with the rhythmic structure driving the EP forward in an understated but irresistible manner.
Basslines throughout NUMBERS are both hypnotic and functional—minimalist in tone, but rich in feel. They roll beneath the surface with a smooth elasticity, anchoring each track without ever feeling overbearing. This subtle groove is where much of the EP’s power lies. There’s a deliberate restraint in how the bass interacts with the rest of the arrangement, and that makes every drop, swing, and pulse feel even more impactful.
Synth work is another standout element. Atmospheric and melodic, the synths serve not only to elevate the rhythm but also to shape a narrative across the release. Rather than flashy leads or overwhelming effects, NOCOLOUR opts for soft, emotive pads and shimmering textures that complement the percussion and deepen the emotional resonance. This melodic sensibility is reminiscent of acts like &ME and Black Coffee, artists known for marrying depth with groove—and NOCOLOUR lands confidently in that same lineage.
The overall atmosphere of NUMBERS is one of authenticity and warmth. Each track feels crafted with care and intention, evoking a sense of movement that is as suitable for dance floors as it is for introspective listening. There’s soul embedded in the sound design—perhaps a reflection of the duo’s cultural blend and shared musical vision. The fusion of European production discipline with Latin rhythmic heritage results in something truly compelling.
Early radio support from BBC Introducing (Radio Solent) hints at the wider recognition this EP is poised to receive, and rightly so. Fans of Keinemusik, Solomun, and the deeper spectrum of Afro Tech will find plenty to love here.
In a genre often saturated by predictable formulas, NUMBERS stands out by keeping things simple, soulful, and groove-driven. NOCOLOUR delivers a mature and confident debut that doesn’t try to do too much—and in doing so, accomplishes a great deal. This is music for those who understand the power of subtlety and the beauty of restraint. Built for movement, made with heart—NUMBERS is a release we’re genuinely excited to spotlight.
