GOOW – VISIONS

GOOW’s latest EP, VISIONS is an evocative exploration of sound, atmosphere, and emotion that transcends traditional genre boundaries. Released on March 14, 2025, this three-track journey into IDM, downtempo, and electronic music is a testament to the artist’s ability to craft intricate sonic landscapes. Inspired by Kandinsky’s compositions, GOOW (Egor Efimuk) takes a reverse approach, painting vivid mental pictures through his music rather than translating art into sound.

The opening track, “You Finally Go Out for a Walk on a Warm and Sunny Spring Day”, sets the stage with a gentle warmth, driven by a delicate Rhodes piano and African-inspired percussion. The rhythm flows effortlessly, creating a sense of calm and introspection. As the track unfolds, layers of distortion gradually seep in, subtly disrupting the serenity. The bassline is understated yet grounding, providing a steady pulse beneath the surface. GOOW masterfully balances the organic feel of the live-recorded elements with electronic flourishes, making this piece a perfect embodiment of “unsettled relaxation.”

“You Notice Something Strange and Watch Until You Realise That You’re Standing on the Verge of a Fascinating Discovery” takes a different turn, building from soft piano motifs into a crescendo of post-rock and ambient-rock elements. Intricate synth leads dance above a bed of amplified piano overtones, while live guitars and drums add a raw, human touch. The rhythm evolves with a sense of curiosity and urgency, mirroring the track’s narrative. The bassline here is more pronounced, driving the momentum forward as layers of sound swell and intertwine. The result is a captivating journey that evokes a sense of awe and wonder.

The final piece, “You Look into the Sky. Nothing Makes Sense, but You Don’t Care Anymore”, is a melancholic, almost meditative drone that washes over the listener with waves of textured sound. GOOW employs granular synthesis to sculpt dense sonic environments, while a live-played kalimba introduces a fragile melodic thread that floats above the layers of noise. The bass hums quietly in the background, more felt than heard, grounding the ethereal ambiance. This track encapsulates the feeling of surrendering to the unknown, embracing the beauty of chaos and impermanence.

What makes VISIONS truly stand out is GOOW’s ability to seamlessly blend structure with improvisation. Most parts were recorded live, capturing the raw emotion and authenticity of each performance. The rhythmic structures are intricate yet never overbearing, allowing the basslines and synths to breathe and evolve naturally. Each track offers a new perspective, inviting the listener to engage fully with the music or let it drift into the background as a mood-setting companion.

As GOOW himself states, “I always wanted to create music that would be interesting to listen to very carefully, with full attention. On the other hand, it should also be a good background for daily routine, just to set the mood for work or evening book reading. I think I’ve hit the target with this release.” Indeed, he has.

VISIONS is more than just an EP – it is a sonic canvas, painted with precision and passion. GOOW’s meticulous attention to detail and fearless experimentation push the boundaries of electronic music, creating a listening experience that is as thought-provoking as it is emotive. We are proud to feature this exceptional release on our webzine and eagerly await where GOOW’s artistic journey takes him next.
