“Foundation” Season 3 Trailer, July Premiere

Apple TV+ has confirmed that the third season of its sci-fi epic series “Foundation” will premiere on the service on July 11th. A fourth season writers’ room is reportedly already at work.

The date was revealed yesterday, fairly quietly through the Apple TV app ahead of the official first trailer and images from the new run which premiered just minutes ago.

Despite the strikes having impacted production on the epic space opera based on Isaac Asimov’s legendary book series, the series arrives pretty much in line with the two-year gap between the previous seasons that arrived in the third quarters of 2021 and 2023 respectively.

The second season closed on a cliffhanger, with the third season set to focus on one of the most famous characters in the franchise – The Mule. Boasting the power to manipulate emotions on a galactic scale, he poses a real threat to the Foundation and to Hari Seldon’s predicted future.

While Mikael Persbrandt played the character in brief future glimpses in the second season, “Game of Thrones” and “Borgen” alum Pilou Asbæk takes on the much expanded role in the new season which will go into his origins and motivations and set the stage for the Third Crisis.

Set 152 years after the events of the second season, the new season begins with The Foundation having become increasingly established far beyond its humble beginnings, while the Cleonic Dynasty’s Empire has dwindled.

As both of these galactic powers forge an uneasy alliance, a threat to the entire galaxy appears in the fearsome form of a warlord known as ‘The Mule’ whose sights are set on ruling the universe by use of physical and military force, as well as mind control

It’s anyone’s guess who will win, who will lose, who will live, and who will die as Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons, and Demerzel play a potentially deadly game of intergalactic chess.

Also joining the cast in the new season as a regular is former DS9 alum Alexander Siddig as Dr. Ebling Mis – a self-taught psychohistorian and diehard fan of Hari Seldon. Troy Kotsur is also a new regular as Preem Palver – the leader of a planet of psychics.
