The Golden Globes Has Added a 'Best Podcast' Category
As one of the hosts of the No Film School podcast, I guess I'd better up my game now that the Golden Globes has announced it's adding a Best Podcast category. This award will debut in 2026. How will the nominees be narrowed down? The Golden Globes will find the top 25 podcasts, and then voters will whittle it down to six nominees. Then they'll pick a favorite from there. Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne said in a statement, “As the world of entertainment continues to evolve, we are excited to recognize new forms of storytelling. Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations. By celebrating achievements in both audio and visual podcasts, we aim to honor our heritage categories while making room for new voices and formats to be heard.” I think this really speaks to how popular podcasts are right now. I personally am not sure they belong in a show recognizing film and television, but anything to make the ceremony longer, I guess. Still, gripes aside, I like that podcasts are being welcomed under the umbrella of entertainment. I am not sure I understand how they pick the top 25 podcasts. I would assume that's a ratings thing, sort of like how they do awards for the best blockbuster. It'll be interesting to see this play out in the 2026 season. The 83rd Golden Globes will mark the debut of the Best Podcast category. They happen on January 11, 2026, with Nikki Glaser hosting. And you can watch them on CBS to see who brings home first prize. Let me know what you think in the comments.
