IHG promo: Stay 2 nights & earn 2k points or stay 4 nights & earn 8k points

Registration is open for IHG’s next global promotion. You can earn 2,000 bonus points for every two paid nights or 8,000 bonus points for every four paid nights, but there’s a catch – you have to pick one earning option or the other ahead of time which can’t subsequently be changed.

If you get an email from IHG offering one-click registration for this promo, be very careful to click the correct link as it could be easy to register for the wrong offer.

The Deal

• IHG One Rewards is offering the choice of either:
  • Earn 2,000 bonus points every two nights
  • Earn 8,000 bonus points every four nights
• Direct link to registration.

Key Terms

• To participate in the Promotion, a member must first register their member number for one of two available offers: (1) the “Earn 2,000 points every 2 nights” offer (the “2,000 Points Offer”); or (2) the “Earn 8,000 points every 4 nights” offer (the “8,000 Points Offer”). If a member has registered for the 2,000 Points Offer, the member can earn 2,000 IHG One Rewards bonus points each time they complete two (2) Qualifying Room Nights during the Promotion Period (defined below). If a member registered for the 8,000 Points Offer, the member can earn 8,000 IHG One Rewards bonus points each time they complete four (4) Qualifying Room Nights during the Promotion Period. A member can only register for one of these two Offers. Once a member has registered, the member is only eligible for that Offer and cannot register for the other Offer.
• Members can pre-register for this Promotion starting May 6, 2025 (the “Pre-Registration Period”). Members will be able to stay and earn IHG One Rewards bonus points under either the 2,000 Points Offer or the 8,000 Points Offer beginning May 20, 2025 and ending on August 31, 2025 (the “Promotion Period”). Members who did not register for during the Pre-Registration Period may register for the Promotion during the Promotion Period. By registering for the Promotion, a member is accepting these Terms & Conditions.
• To be a “Qualifying Room Night” under the Promotion, the room night must fall within the Promotion Period and must be part of a Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay. For purposes of this Promotion, a “Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay” is defined as a minimum one (1) room night stay, during the Promotion Period, at a participating hotel booked under a Qualifying Rate that is at least a total spend of $30 dollars (or local currency equivalent) per night.
• Room nights outside of the Promotion Period are not included, and room nights that are part of a stay that was completed prior to registration for the Promotion also are not included.
• Stays booked using Rewards Nights or Points & Cash are not Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stays for purposes of this Promotion.
• Bookings made through on-line travel agencies or other reservation sites such as booking.com or expedia.com also do not qualify under this Promotion.
• If more than one member who registered for the Promotion checks into the same room, only one member is eligible to earn points under the Promotion for those nights that qualify. If a member books more than one room on the same night, the member will receive credit towards this Promotion for only one of the rooms that also meets the requirements of a Qualifying Room Night.

Quick Thoughts

IHG One Rewards has run promotions like this before on occasion. They’re mildly annoying because you have to lock in your earning choice ahead of time and your choice can’t subsequently changed.

If you only anticipate staying a couple of nights with IHG during the promo period, it makes sense to choose the 2,000 bonus points option. However, it’s then frustrating if your plans change and you end up staying four nights as you’d then only earn 4,000 bonus points rather than 8,000. Still, that’s better than nothing, especially compared to the 1,000 bonus Hilton points you’ll earn from their promo regardless of how many nights your stay is.

What’s also a little frustrating about this new offer is the email IHG is sending to members regarding registering for it. The email I received highlights the more stringent offer of having to stay four nights in order to earn 8,000 bonus points. It gives one-click registration options in a couple of prominent places in the email.

It’s only if you keep scrolling to the end of the email that there’s a much smaller box stating that there’s an alternate option available.

My wife on the other hand had this in reverse. She had one-click registration for the 2k offer, with the 8k offer hidden away below. I imagine a not-insignificant number of people would take advantage of the one-click registration option, realizing too late – if at all – that there’s an alternate bonus points offer that might better fit their needs.

What is nice about this promotion is that your nights don’t have to be consecutive. For example, if you choose to earn 8,000 bonus points for every four nights you stay, you could book four separate stays at different properties of one night each and still earn the bonus points.

Note that only paid stays of $30 or more are eligible for this offer; award stays and Points + Cash stays aren’t eligible. Seeing as you have to book a paid stay, be sure to click through from a shopping portal – here are the current rates. If you have the Capital One Shopping browser extension installed, also have a quick browse on IHG’s website. You’ll then hopefully receive a targeted email from Capital One Shopping within an hour or two offering an elevated cashback rate.

Also check your Chase Offers because there are targeted offers giving 10% back on up to $620 spend at several IHG brands including Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and InterContinental.
