Following her career-redefining performance in Gia Coppola’s serious drama “The Last Showgirl,” Pamela Anderson is back in cinemas again with the spoof-comedy franchise reboot “The Naked Gun”.
The first photo is out of her in the film which she plays Beth, a woman who appears to fall into the classic femme fatale archetype. In the film her character comes to the Police Squad for help after her brother’s murder.
Speaking with EW, she says she prepared for this role pretty much the same way she prepared for “Last Showgirl,” committing to a character despite the tone being very different:
“It is the same depth of process for a high comedy as it is for a drama. I worked hard on the role, another cathartic experience. Every film, it seems, tackles a deep-seated issue that needs to be expressed and surfaced in ways other than anything else.”
Anderson stars opposite Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Lt. Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) who starred in the “Naked Gun” trilogy from 1988-1994.
She adds while the actors did crack up a few times on set, the best strategy for the film was to “play the scenes dramatically and truthfully. The comedy is for the audience, not for us. We are in the moment.”
Of Neeson, she says: “Our chemistry was clear from the start. We have the utmost respect for one another…He is a legend and deserving of the title.” Neeson himself similalrly gushed about working with the former “Baywatch” star.
Paul Walter Hauser co-stars in the film which hits cinemas August 1st.
