The Pointer Sisters have seen a huge boost in their streaming numbers after their iconic track was used in the new GTA 6 trailer.

Last week, developers Rockstar Games confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed. The game had been set to launch at some point this year but will now be released May 26, 2026.

To make up for the push back, developers shared an “unprecedented” amount of information with fans, including map, story and character details. They also revealed the long-awaited second trailer.

The two-minute clip starts with new protagonist Jason Duvall driving around town, collecting payments for his boss Brian. In classic GTA fashion, the various radio stations get a lot of attention in the video – with snippets of Wang Chung’s ‘Everybody Have Fun Tonight’, ‘Child Support’ by Zenglen & 5 Etwal and Talkin’ To Myself Again’ by Tammy Wynette playing.

After Jason is reunited with Lucia, The Pointer Sisters’ iconic ‘Hot Together’ plays for the remainder of the trailer. In the two-hours following the trailer’s launch, streams of The Pointer Sisters’ music exploded. ‘Hot Together’ saw “a stratospheric 182,000 per cent increase in global streams on Spotify, in comparison with the same period one week prior,” said Spotify.

Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else,” explained Spotify’s Sulinna Ong in a statement. “Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it’s great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way. ”

The first trailer for GTA 6 was soundtracked by Tom Petty classic ‘Love Is A Long Road. Spotify later confirmed the song saw a “huge streaming increase of 36,979 per cent” following its inclusion in the trailer.

Earlier this year, it was rumoured Megan Thee Stallion would feature in GTA 6 after they shared a BTS look at a Vice City-inspired photoshoot. Megan Thee Stallion is also one of the 1007 accounts Rockstar Games follows on Instagram.

Her inclusion in the game hasn’t been confirmed but Rockstar has announced a pair of rappers will feature in the game’s cast of characters. “Bae-Luxe and Roxy aka Real Dimez have been friends since high school — girls with the savvy to turn their time shaking down local dealers into cold, hard cash via spicy rap tracks and a relentless social media presence,” reads the GTA 6 website.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is out May 26, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There is still no word about a Nintendo Switch 2 or PC release though.

In other news, Palworld developers have confirmed another “disappointing” change is being made to the game due to an ongoing lawsuit with The Pokémon Company.
