First Look at STAR WARS: VISIONS Season 3: A "Psychedelic Battle" Exploring the "Tormented Psyche" of a Stormtrooper
This is our first look at Lucasfilm’s animated series Star Wars: Visions Season 3, and the still comes from the episode Black, directed by acclaimed animator Shinya Ohira. It teases a visually explosive, psychological battlefield inside the mind of an Imperial soldier. The image was unveiled at the Annecy Festival, and the episode is described as “a psychedelic battle between past and present, light and dark, life and death,” with this war “raging in the tormented psyche of an Imperial soldier near defeat.” That’s a hell of a pitch for a Star Wars story! I love how this Visions series is able to experiment with the Star Wars universe and explore the abstract side of animation.Season 3 of the anime anthology is set to premiere in 2025, and this time, the lineup of participating studios is stacked with the likes of David Production (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), Kamikaze Douga + ANIMA (Star Wars: Visions Season 1’s The Duel), Kinema Citrus (Made in Abyss), Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia), Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell), Project Studio Q (Evangelion 3.0+1.0), TRIGGER (Delicious in Dungeon), and WIT Studio (Attack on Titan). Visions Season 3 is shaping up to be another wild ride through the Star Wars universe and this particular episode will explore the fractured mind of a stormtrooper on the edge. Expect something cool, visceral, and unfiltered when it arrives next year. First look at STAR WARS: VISIONS VOLUME 3One of the shorts is titled “Black” and will follow the rages in the tormented psyche of an stormtrooper close to defeat.Japanese artist Sakura Fujiwara will contribute to the short’s music.
