We are just one day away from Assassin’s Creed finally arriving in feudal Japan. In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will take on the roles of both Naoe and Yasuke in the highly anticipated entry in the long-running Ubisoft franchise. PS5 players get the bonus of earning trophies during their playthrough and even potentially garner a coveted Platinum trophy. However, it seems there is one big issue that may hinder that quest to collect them all.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows requires online connection to Ubisoft to unlock trophies
According to PowerPyx (via the PlayStation subreddit), every Assassin’s Creed trophy is technically glitched. For the most part, every trophy unlocks fine, but if the game loses its online connection to a Ubisoft server, trophies do not unlock.
While this may not be too big of a hassle for trophies regarding collectibles, it does pose a problem if Assassin’s Creed Shadows loses its online connection between acts. The post suggests that Act 2 is “particularly glitchy” and players should manually save the game after defeating the Shinbakufu members. It also suggests spreading out more manual saves during the open-world cleanup portion of the trophy hunt so if something doesn’t unlock, players can quickly hop back in without losing too much progress. Some of the glitched trophies may pop up during the in-game loading scree or by simply rebooting Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
In the case that a trophy never unlocks, players can create a new Uplay account and link it to their profile, delete local saves, reinstall, and replay. That sounds like a pretty miserable experience, so hopefully it doesn’t come to that.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches tomorrow for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While you wait for that massive download to finish, check out our review where we gave it a 7 out of 10.
