Courtney Love says she’s set a plan in motion to become an official U.K. citizen. Her reasons? To escape “emperor” Donald Trump.
“It’s great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen — I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me!” the longtime singer said, per The Daily Mail.” “In terms of Trump, and particularly this group [Trump’s administration]… it’s like emperor-core, like [they’re] wearing million-dollar watches. Emperor-core is going on at Mar-a-Lago. It’s frightening now. It’s like cyanide now.”
Though Love’s efforts to officially become a Brit come as no surprise since the singer and guitarist has long expressed her love of England, adding that she’d likely “end up there” at some point. She made good on personal endeavor; she’s been a resident in the country for several years after moving to its capital, London, in 2019.
“I know what neighborhood I’m going to end up in, and I know that I want to be on the Thames. I subscribe to this magazine called Country Life, which is just real-estate porn and fox hunting. It’s amazing,” Love said in a 2017 interview.
Love now joins the list of several stars who have emigrated to and/or are looking to emigrate to the U.K., including Tom Ford, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes.
In 2024, Ellen DeGeneras and her wife Portia de Rossi picked up and moved to England following the results of the presidential election. They now reside in Cotswolds, a rural area in south-central England. She said she is “never coming back,” adding that at the time her Montecito mansion, roughly 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, has been pocket-listed or would be listed soon.
