Superman Runtime Plus Positive Test Screening Reaction | Barside Buzz

Some DCU Barside Buzz as we have a claimed Superman runtime and reports of a positive test screening reaction. The information comes from insider Jeff Sneider on his The Insneider Newsletter. Sneider had previously reported not hearing great reports about earlier test screenings for the film, though that was a little time ago. However, now a source is giving him much better news.

“I spoke to someone this weekend who has seen ‘Superman,’ and they really liked it. They said David Corenswet delivers as the Man of Steel and that the ‘jokey moments’ I mentioned on my podcast, ‘The Hot Mic,’ were initially viewed out of context, but worked much better within the flow of the edit.”

“They compared it to how Gunn balanced the humor and the drama in ‘The Suicide Squad,’ saying it has genuinely funny moments but it also knows when to drop the shtick and get serious.”

Meanwhile Sneider also said he was told the cut was around 140 minutes, so 2 hours and 20 minutes. This won’t necessarily be the theatrical cut though so take the runtime as a guideline for now rather than a fact.

To say there’s a lot riding on this movie would be an understatement. It needs to be profitable, but also generally liked by the comic book movie demographic. That’s what will drive desire for more DCU stories.

I’m sure Gunn will be tinkering with the cut for a little while yet. It’s still only March and Superman‘s release date is July 11th, plenty tinkering time left. The movie was made on a fairly tight schedule. Therefore, I’m sure Gunn will be using every bit of time he has left in the lead up to release.
