Steve Aoki bought the original Cap’n Jazz painting for $23,433

Earlier this year, Tim Kinsella auctioned off some rare items from throughout his career, including his original painting that he used for Cap’n Jazz‘s sole 1995 album Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We’ve Slipped on, and Egg Shells We’ve Tippy Toed Over (aka Shmap’n Shmazz), and that painting went for a whopping $23,433. It’s now been revealed that the painting’s new owner is none other than Steve Aoki, the EDM giant with a known punk/hardcore past who still clearly loves to show his support for that scene.

Steve revealed the news in an Instagram story, in which he wrote, “I’m so happy to now own the original art from [one] of my favorite albums of all time and drawn by Tim Kinsella himself.” Steve–who in recent years is often shown seen showing off his impressive records slabbed and graded by the record grading service he owns called Audio Media Grading (AMG), also thanked CGC Comics and James Spence Authentication (JSA) for authenticating and grading the art for him. See Steve’s post below.

Steve was also seen rocking out side stage when Cap’n Jazz began their latest reunion at Best Friends Forever festival last year, and Cap’n Jazz are continuing their reunion into this year, with NYC shows happening on July 12 & 13 at Warsaw. Polyvinyl also just gave Shmap’n Shmazz a remastered 30th anniversary reissue, marking its first time on vinyl since its initial release, and we’ve got an exclusive ice blue vinyl variant available now in the BrooklynVegan shop.
