Sony Pictures’ live-action film adaptation of “The Legend of Zelda” video game franchise has set a March 26th 2027 theatrical release – one week after “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” is slated to hit cinemas.
The reveal came via Nintendo Today, a new app launched by the gaming giant which held a ‘Direct’ presentation earlier this week teasing various new titles from “Metroid” to Marvel.
Wes Ball (“The Maze Runner,” “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”) is attached to helm the film adaptation which was announced back in November 2023 and is being co-financed by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Nintendo.
In the time since, no casting or story details have emerged. There has been limited speculation as to who will play Link, but no actual candidates have revealed themselves as yet.
“Zelda” series creator Shigeru Miyamoto is producing the film alongside Avi Arad, Ball and Joe Hartwick Jr..
The ‘Zelda’ announcement came a half-year after Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment teamed on “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” which grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide.
