Kendrick Lamar’s live-action comedy film with ‘South Park’ creators delayed to 2026

Kendrick Lamar‘s untitled comedy film is being pushed back to 2026 – find out more below.

In early 2022, it was revealed that Kendrick Lamar would be producing a live-action comedy film in collaboration with the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The following year, it was confirmed that besides producing, Parker would also direct the live-action movie.

Ever since then, little information has been shared about the film, except that it would release on the Fourth of July this year. That however, has changed. According to a Variety report, the film is now being delayed to to March 20 next year.

While a reason for the delay has not been revealed, it is worth noting that Lamar will be out on tour from early July until August with SZA across Europe and the UK, and would likely be unable to attend to the film and promoting it during that time. Prior to the UK/European run of dates, he will also be touring the US.

Virtually no information about the film has been shared, including its title nor cast. The only other piece of information that has been made public is that Dave Free of Lamar’s label PgLang will co-produce, and that the plot revolves around the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.

Lamar and SZA’s European and UK run of the joint ‘Grand National Tour’ will kick off with an opening night at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne on July 2. From there, they’ll perform shows in Frankfurt, Glasgow, Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Barcelona, Rome and more before wrapping up in Stockholm on August 9 – visit here to buy tickets to the tour.

In a five-star review of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘GNX’, Kyann-Sian Williams wrote for NME: “‘GNX’ starts off with such an ominous tone that doesn’t necessarily leave. But Lamar channels what could be interpreted as hate and negativity into a teachable moment, leading you to draw upon the purest emotion known to man: love. In a year that started with so much venom, Kendrick Lamar shares the antidote on ‘GNX’.”
