Actor Val Kilmer Has Died At 65

Famed actor Val Kilmer has died, The New York Times confirming that the actor has passed away from pneumonia at the age of 65. Kilmer had battled throat cancer for several years in the late 2010s and had extreme difficulty speaking.

Kilmer first starred in the Abrams, Zucker, Abrams 1984 comedy “Top Secret!” and Martha Coolidge’s “Real Genius” before really breaking through with Tony Scott’s “Top Gun” in 1986 in a role he reprised in 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick”.

He remained steadily employed for decades despite a reputation for being difficult to work with at times. He gained fame for his performances like Doc Holiday in “Tombstone,” Chris Shiherlis in Michael Mann’s “Heat,” Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s “The Doors,” Bruce Wayne/Batman in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever,” Simon Templar in Phil Noyce’s “The Saint,” Sgt. John in David Mamet’s “Spartan,” and Gay Perry in Shane Black’s “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”.

He also played Madmartigan in Ron Howard’s “Willow,” Col. Patterson in Stephen Hopkins’ “The Ghost and the Darkness,” Elvis in Tony Scott’s “True Romance,” Agent Levoi in “Thunderheart,” Philip II in Oliver Stone’s “Alexander,” Agent Pryzwarra in Tony Scott’s “Déjà Vu,” Moses in “The Prince of Egypt,” and Dieter Von Cunth in “MacGruber”.

Other films included “The Island of Dr. Moreau,” “The Real McCoy,” “Wings of Courage,” “At First Sight,” “Joe the King,” “Red Planet,” “The Salton Sea,” “Wonderland,” “The Missing,” “Masked and Anonymous,” “Mindhunters,” “Twixt,” “Song to Song,” “The Snowman,” and provided the voice of KITT in 2008’s “Knight Rider” reboot.

At his peak in the 1990s, he was one of the best-paid actors out there with his films having grossed over $3.5 billion at the worldwide box-office. He is survived by a daughter, Mercedes and a son, Jack.
