Nintendo Reveals Switch 2 Console Details

Nintendo has officially unveiled the Switch 2, the successor to its best-selling home console of all time will launch on June 5th and will cost $450 USD in the U.S. and $700 AUD in Australia.

Like the original, the Switch 2 is able to be connected to a TV for standard console play, or used as a handheld machine. It is also bigger, much more powerful, features controllers that attach magnetically, and has integrated voice and video chat.

The console boasts a 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen that displays in 1080p with HDR and can run at up to 120Hz for gameplay in handheld mode. The TV dock can output in 4K and has an integrated fan. The battery is bigger at 5220mAh (compared to the original’s 4310mAh).

The console can play both Switch 2 exclusive games as well as those made for the original Switch. Some of those original games can be upgraded to ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’ versions, which boast better graphics and other features including new content, for a fee (though some are being upgraded for free).

The console will also work with a USB-C camera and the new C button is used to bring forward chat controls. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers can be dragged on a surface to act like a computer mouse.

The system also works with the existing Switch Online subscription and adds Nintendo GameCube games to the lineup. Switch 2 will not work with existing microSD cards, only new microSD Express cards.

46 third-party games have been confirmed with 17 coming on launch day. Launch titles include “Split Fiction,” “Street Fighter 6,” “Hogwarts Legacy,” “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition,” “Hitman: World of Assassination,” “Fortnite,” and “Civilization VII”.

Post-launch titles include “Star Wars Outlaws,” “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4,” “Hades II,” “Borderlands 4,” “Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade,” “Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition” and the Project 007 game. Switch 2 will also launch with the open world title “Mario Kart World”.

New games announced include FromSoftware multiplayer exclusive “The Duskbloods” in 2026, “Donkey Kong Bananza” due on July 17th, “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment” this Winter, while “Kirby Air Riders” is currently in development.
