Royal Salute launches 21 Year Old Rio de Janeiro Polo Edition at key Brazilian airports with Avolta
Royal Salute adds South American flair to its travel retail offering with the expression, an homage to Brazil’s vibrant second city and the latest release in the brand’s Polo Collection.
BRAZIL. Scotch whisky house Royal Salute (Pernod Ricard) has unveiled the latest release in its Polo Collection – the 21 Year Old Rio de Janeiro Polo Edition.
The expression launched exclusively with Avolta on 1 April (RRP US$245) in limited quantities at Rio de Janeiro Galeão and São Paulo Guarulhos international airports.
Distribution will expand to other select locations later this year.
The 21 Year Old Rio de Janeiro Polo Edition draws inspiration from Brazil’s cultural vibrancy and its growing reputation as a centre for polo, particularly in Rio de Janeiro which the brand describes as “the undisputed capital of Brazilian polo”.
The expression continues Royal Salute’s long-standing association with polo and is the seventh in the Polo Edition series. It follows the Royal Salute 21 Year Old Miami Polo Edition released in April 2024.
Crafted by Royal Salute Master Blender Sandy Hyslop, the 21 Year Old blended malt whisky pays tribute to the vibrant spirit of Rio de Janeiro.
Rich, fruity and smooth, the whisky features a selection of malts from Braeval – the highest distillery in Scotland – matured in first-fill casks for fresh, floral and grassy notes inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s rainforests and tropical gardens. This is complemented by other malt whiskies aged in American Oak casks for added vanilla and coconut flavours.
The whisky is housed in a recyclable glass flagon inspired by the Brazilian flag and features luxurious gold accents. It is presented in a vivid gift box depicting the famous Ipanema beach, further reinforcing its Brazilian theme.
Hyslop commented: “Coming alive with the creamy sweetness of vanilla and coconut, the fruity notes in this blended malt whisky are like an intricate dance – much like the Bossa Nova performed on a warm Brazilian evening.
“To make a blend as special as its inspiration, we incorporated Braeval whisky matured in first-fill casks. This has not only allowed us to give it a new dimension but has resulted in a taste experience as captivating and multi-layered as Rio itself, a true representation of the city’s irresistible charm.”
