Smartseller reveals combined duty-free and food & beverage concept at Nuremberg Airport
The innovative hybrid 1,110sq m store from casualfood and Gebr. Heinemann combines elements of duty free, spa, lounge and café/kitchen.

GERMANY. Smartseller Nürnberg today (3 April) opened a new shopping and culinary experience at Nuremberg Airport.
To accommodate the innovative hybrid venture, a partnership with airport operator Flughafen Nürnberg Service, the travel hub’s duty-free store area has been expanded from 650sq m to 1,110sq m.
Smartseller, a joint venture between casualfood and Gebr. Heinemann, was founded in 2020 with the goal of developing duty-free shops into an innovative and modern hybrid concept that combines both shopping and gastronomy.
The new shop design in Nuremberg features an extensive food & beverage choice spread over several islands. Passengers can experience a refined wine bar and a fully equipped beer ‘garden’, highlighted by a striking light installation composed of beer bottles.
Smartseller Nürnberg noted the concept integrates elements of spa, lounge, café/kitchen and sense of place. In-store smartphone-charging stations are among the facilities.
The experience is complemented by panoramic views of Nuremberg.
The store has been unveiled after several months of renovation works, carried out in several stages to minimise inconvenience to passengers.
Smartseller Nürnberg Managing Director Sebastian Schäfer said, “From the very beginning, it was important to us to offer our guests a range of products with a local flavour. We are therefore delighted to have so many strong partners from the region who perfectly complement our concept.
“The diversity of Nuremberg and Franconia can be experienced particularly well here.”
Flughafen Nürnberg Service CFO Klaus Dotzauer commented, “We selected Smartseller as our partner because of their expertise in regional airports and their ability to seamlessly integrate retail and dining experiences into a cohesive and innovative offering.”
