Air France—KLM’s Flying Blue has started to tease members about “Flying Blue Extra,” which was briefly up on its website yesterday with broken 404 links and removed today.

The text on the box indicates that Flying Blue is consolidating the various Points offered modules under this “Extra” banner and will also allow members to buy Experience Points (XPs), which are their Tier Points used to determine their status with the program.

You can access Flying Blue Extra here (currently return 404).

BA’s Points Module:

I believe that the Flying Blue Extra is basically what some other airlines already have on their respective websites, like the one above from BA.

Flying Blue is already selling its miles and has a subscription to continuously receive them monthly.  There have also been Multiply Your Miles (boost) offers that have allowed members to multiply the miles they have earned recently.

It would be new if they allowed you to buy XPs as well, but you can already acquire them effectively at the time of your travels when you buy Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) credits.

It is unclear if the lounge access they refer to is the one that comes with elite status or if they are starting to sell it separately to those who otherwise would have entry rights.

Conclusion

It is interesting to see what price they have decided to sell XPs at and the maximum amount you can buy them.

Buying those SAF credits during the travels can make sense if they allow you to maintain your current tier or reach a higher one.

The miles can also make sense, but Flying Blue’s award requirements are all over the place: sometimes, they’re great, and often, they’re not.
