Weezer Still Playing Coachella After Bassist’s Wife’s Shooting

Weezer are still planning to perform at the Coachella festival on Saturday (April 12) despite bassist Scott Shriner’s wife having been shot by police yesterday during an investigation of a hit-and-run car crash in Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood.

Per TMZ, Jillian Lauren Shriner allegedly pointed a gun at officers who encountered her in an alleyway while searching for other suspects. She refused repeated requests to drop the weapon and then fired a shot from it, leading an officer to return fire and hit her in the shoulder. She was released from a hospital with a non-life-threatening wound but was later arrested for attempted murder and released on $1 million bond

Police say they recovered a nine-millimeter handgun at the Shriner’s home. Scott Shriner was said to have been on the premises during the incident.

Weezer were a late addition to the Coachella lineup last week in tandem with Ed Sheeran. The Rivers Cuomo-led group previously played the California desert festival in 2001, 2005 and 2019.

Shriner joined Weezer in 2001 following the departure of bassist Mikey Welsh.
