The Last of Us 3 Unlikely After Latest Release, Fans Speculate

Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced The Last of Us Complete, a nicely packed bundle that includes PS5’s The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2. However, its name may suggest that this might be the last of them.

Is this the last of them?

The word “complete” in the recently released The Last of Us Complete suggests that the post-apocalyptic tale starring Joel Miller and Ellie Williams is done. Even its description alludes to this package featuring the entire story.

“Available today on the PlayStation 5 console, The Last of Us Complete allows players to experience both The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II Remastered in one package,” begins the description of the rerelease. “The Last of Us Complete makes it easier than ever to experience the full story on PS5, whether you’ve played both entries, just one, or have yet to immerse yourself in the world of Joel, Ellie, Abby, and all of our characters.”

As such, The Last of Us fans have begun speculating that this may be the end of PlayStation’s clicker-infested world in video game form, with Part 3 merely becoming a pipe dream.

“If they are calling this complete edition; I’m definitely not holding my breath for part 3 anymore,” says one fan on the PS5 subreddit.

“Naughty Dog moves on to new things when a story is done. They did with Uncharted and they will with The Last of Us. Their new IP is coming out soon,” says another fan on the PS5 subreddit.

While anything is possible, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann essentially confirms the studio is done with The Last of Us for the time being.

“I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it,” said Druckmann.

As one Reddit user mentioned above, Naughty Dog is currently working on its next project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The studio has described it as its “franchise” which may suggest that it has shifted its focus on creating stories within its new sci-fi world.
