“Percy Jackson” Renewed For Season 3

Disney+ has handed out a very early third season renewal its fantasy series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”.

The news is surprising as it arrives almost a year before the second season hits the service in December. That season recently wrapped production in Vancouver.

The third season will be based on Rick Riordan’s third novel “The Titan’s Curse”. In this outing, Percy sets out to rescue his friend Annabeth Chase and the Greek goddess Artemis – both of whom have been kidnapped by the Titan Atlas.

It will mark the first time the story has been adapted for the screen. The previous two seasons were based on books that were adapted onto film before.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television says in a statement:

“From the moment ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ debuted, it was clear this series had struck a chord with fans of all ages. With season two set to premiere this December, we’re thrilled to announce that Percy’s journey will continue with a third season. Huge thanks to our incredible cast and creative team, our partners at 20th Television, and our visionary and talented producers who continue to bring Rick Riordan’s world to life with such depth and imagination.”

Author Rick Riordan also issued a brief statement, saying:

“We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+. This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time. It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”

The early renewal is likely an attempt to shrink the window between seasons as the gap between the first and second will be a full two years. It also helps the first season has been one of the only non-Marvel or non-“Star Wars” shows on the streamer to hit the Nielsen charts and draw a large viewership.

Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn and Daniel Diemer star in the series which will announce a more exact premiere date for its second season shortly.
