Chinese filmmaker Guan Hu is reportedly developing a film adaptation of “Full-Spectrum Barrage Jamming,” a sci-fi novella by “The Three-Body Problem” author Liu Cixin.
Featured in the collection “To Hold Up the Sky,” military sci-fi short story ‘Jamming’ deals with the arms race of electronic warfare during a conflict between a resurgent Communist Russia and NATO forces. Russia deploys desperate measures to counter NATO’s advanced electronic capabilities.
Guan helmed the Cannes Un Certain Regard-winning film “Black Dog”, which was nominated for five Asian Film Awards, including Best Film and Director. He’s also known for his 2020 war epic “The Eight Hundred”.
Guan is also working on an adaptation of Liu Zhenyun’s acclaimed novel “One Sentence Is Ten Thousand Sentences” and follows two intertwined narratives dealing with loneliness and spanning generations in rural China.
The news comes as Netflix’s sci-fi TV series “3 Body Problem” is gearing up to produce its second season this year for release in 2026.
The show, which released its first season exactly a year ago this week, deals with a group of people who all come into contact with an extraterrestrial civilization – leading to various threats and humanity-wide changes.
