Developer People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment have entered a partnership to produce a new video game codenamed “Project Delta” the companies announced today. As this partnership was set in stone yesterday, what this project could be is unknown. However, PlayStation fans seem to be convinced it may be a new SOCOM game.

People Can Fly’s shooter pedigree has SOCOM fans hoping for a revival

Thanks to an eagle-eyed Reddit user from the PS5 subreddit, People Can Fly and Sony will work together to create a new game based on one of Sony’s IP. The Polish developer is known for its work on shooters like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment. With that in mind, that limits the pool of available PlayStation IPs just a bit. From the aforementioned thread, it seems most are in favor of this being a new SOCOM game. Also mentioned are Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk.

“Has to be either Socom or Killzone since this company mostly makes shooters,” says one redditor. “Resistance as well is a good guess.”

“Wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot of Warhawk,” says another Redditor. “That game had the Fortnite potential before Fortnite. Sony just kinda failed to really capitalize on it.”

“Please God, let it be Resistance,” pleads a Redditor.

Of course, this really is all speculation. Who knows, it could even be a third-person shooter based on Knack. We probably won’t know what this is for a few years.

For those unaware, SOCOM was a third-person tactical shooter series that saw entries on PS2, PS3, and PSP. The last title of the franchise was SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs in 2011. When it launched, the reviews were fairly mixed. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 67 across 64 critic reviews. The series has been dormant ever since.
