Almost exactly a year ago came the news that filmmaker Kimberly Peirce (“Boys Don’t Cry,” “Stop/Loss”) was attached to direct and co-write a remake of the Lawrence Kasdan written and directed 1981 sweaty erotic neo-noir thriller “Body Heat”.
Now, DanielRPK is reporting that Emma Stone has been offered the lead role in the film – taking on a role Kathleen Turner played in the original.
The original was a loose remake of noir classic “Double Indemnity” and set during an unrelenting South Florida summer. Turner starred as the manipulative young wife of an older wealthy man (Richard Crenna) who is often away on business.
She starts an affair with an inept local lawyer (William Hurt) and eventually convinces him to help her kill the husband and run away with the money she wouldn’t otherwise get in a divorce. Ted Danson also had a memorable role.
The film was known for its lewd dialogue, frank sexuality and its ending. Kasdan, who had written “The Empire Strikes Back” right before, went on to direct 1983’s “The Big Chill”.
Stone has both Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia” and Ari Aster’s “Eddington” on the way this year and had a very successful 2024 – winning the Oscar in March that year for her work in 2023’s “Poor Things” as well as producing two of the best-reviewed films of last year – “I Saw the TV Glow” and “A Real Pain”.
