Chris Nolan-Amazon Bond Talk Heats Up

In the wake of Amazon’s purchase of full creative control of the James Bond franchise, there has been much discussion and debate about where the venerable property will go from here and how the retail giant intends to handle it.

Will we see movies, TV shows, multiple spin-offs? Who knows. But one suggestion that gets repeatedly brought up is hiring long-time Bond fan Christopher Nolan to direct the next film.

That talk came to a head last week in features written in the wake of the deal with Nolan having reportedly expressed interest in directing Bond after the release of “Tenet” in 2020.

The issue was producer Barbara Broccoli: “made it clear that no director would have final cut while Bond was under her purview” which led to Nolan passing.

Things have changed in favor of Nolan. Broccoli is now gone, the franchise’s next film by its nature is a complete reboot and thus could do almost anything, and Nolan can now get final cut on any kind of Bond film he wants to make.

Additionally, Amazon not only sports deep pockets but also a willingness to do a long theatrical window for their film releases and would very much welcome the prestige of having a Nolan film under their roof.

The Wrap has now spoken with a handful of top franchise producers about the deal and the consensus reportedly is that Amazon needs to hire Nolan and give him whatever time and money he needs.

One says: “If Amazon wants to preserve the legacy, they should do everything possible to get Chris Nolan and wait for him as long as needed.”

Another source claims that Amazon has probably already contacted Nolan since “there is strong mutual desire to make it happen.”

Nolan is currently busy filming his ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” which opens July 2026 and is famous for focusing on one project at a time. Thus it’s likely we won’t hear much about any potential Bond-Nolan deal for a while.
