“The Last of Us” Adds Joe Pantoliano, Alanna Ubach, and More to Season Two Cast

With just over a month to go before “The Last of Us” Season 2 premieres on Max, and Variety reports today that six actors have joined the supporting cast of the upcoming season.

“The Last of Us” Season 2 premieres on Max on April 13, 2025.

Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix, “Chucky”), Alanna Ubach (Venom: The Last Dance, In Our Blood), Ben Ahlers (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), Hettienne Park (“Hannibal”), Robert John Burke (Boston Strangler, Thinner) and Noah Lamanna (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”) are set to appear in the second season.

Pantoliano will play Eugene, a minor character from video game The Last of Us Part II that’s being expanded for the series, which is an understatement in that Eugene is never glimpsed beyond a photograph in the game. “I get excited when I see these opportunities,” said Neil Druckmann, who is also the creative director of Part II. “I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t know Eugene that well!’ The story we told [in the game] was somewhat superficial.”

Burke plays Seth, who runs a bar in the Jackson, Wyoming community where Joel and Ellie now reside at the start of season two. Lamanna plays Ellie’s ex. Park, Ubach, and Ahlers will play original roles not from the game, named Elise Park, Hanrahan, and Burton, respectively.

HBO’s “The Last of Us” takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed.

The second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” will adapt video game sequel The Last of Us Part II, but don’t expect the game’s events to be contained to just one season. It’s likely that the sequel’s sprawling, multi-character story will span the timeline of at least two seasons.

The series is expected to run a total of no more than four seasons.

Season 2 returning cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New cast includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Catherine O’Hara also guest stars in “The Last of Us” Season 2, alongside Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, the very same character he voiced in The Last of Us Part II video game.

The lineup of directors for Season 2 includes Mark Mylod (“Succession,” The Menu) alongside Nina Lopez-Corrado (Perry Mason), Stephen Williams (Watchmen) and Kate Herron (Loki). They join returning directors Peter Hoar, series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
