Voice actor and comedian George Lowe, famed for his portrayal of Space Ghost on the animated series “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” has died after a battle with a long illness. He was 67.
Lowe did voiceover work at TBS from the late 1980s and before hitting it big as Space Ghost in the early 1990s.
The character was a superhero from an old Hanna-Barbera cartoon, but the new series turned him into the host of a late night talk show in which he would interview real-life guests.
It was one of the first original series produced for Cartoon Network, running for eleven seasons and well over 100 episodes. It also inspired a number of series skewering Hanna-Barbera cartoons, most notably the beloved “Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law”.
Lowe also provided his voice to countless Cartoon Network and Adult Swim series including “Sealab 2021,” “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “The Brak Show,” “Robot Chicken,” “Squidbillies,” “Celebrity Deathmatch” and more. His last on screen performance was reprising Space Ghost for the Max series “Jellystone!”.
