CBS Cancels Multiple “FBI” Series

CBS has abruptly cancelled both “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International,” the network axing both “FBI” spin-offs even as they show no sign of closing out the franchise.

The axings are a surprise – both shows weren’t announced for renewal last month but both still do decent ratings for the network and still rank among the top 25 shows (excluding live sports) on network TV in total viewers this season – each pulling in around 7.5 million viewers per episode in Live+7 viewing.

“FBI: Most Wanted” will now close out after six seasons. It focuses on the New York Fugitive Task Force which tracks and captures criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Julian McMahon and Kellan Lutz led the early seasons while Dylan McDermott, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Edwin Hodge and Shantel VanSanten lead the more recent seasons.

“FBI: International” will end after four seasons. It follows a team of FBI special agents who investigate crime and terrorism abroad. Luke Kleintank and Heida Reed led the first three seasons while Jesse Lee Soffer, Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto, Eva-Jane Willis and Christina Wolfe are in the current cast.

The news comes as the main “FBI” series is in the middle of a multiple-season order and will be continuing on CBS for at least two more years.

Additionally a new entry, “FBI: CIA,” is in development and will focus on CIA operatives. That show will be introduced as a back-door pilot in an episode of “FBI” later this season.
