The “Reacher” Season 3 Reviews Are In

Amazon launched the third season of “Reacher” on its service earlier today. The first three episodes are available now with the five remaining releasing weekly.

The show has always been far better as a binge-watch, and the wait isn’t long for those who want to do so as the finale airs on March 27th.

After a universally praised first season and a slightly more divisive second that was more ensemble-based, critics who’ve seen the full third season seem to agree that it returns to the first season’s more standalone nature and strengths.

With 22 reviews counted, the new season sits at 100% (7.8/10) on Rotten Tomatoes, while on Metacritic it’s at 77/100 which is above the 68/100 of the first but behind the 79/100 of the second.

Praise is high for Ritchson, the action and the show overall, while Sonya Cassidy is getting a lot of praise for her new character of DEA agent Susan Duffy. Here’s a sampling of reviews:

“Thankfully, the new season isn’t just a bounce back: It’s a high watermark for the series so far — a violent, hilarious, oddly charming spectacle of muscle and grit and sardonic comedy” – Jacob Hall, Slashfilm

“I am curious to see if Reacher can find a way to keep topping itself as seasons two and three each built on what came before them. Fans of the books and of this show are in for a great season that may be the best Reacher adaptation yet.” – Alex Maidy, JoBlo

“Each of the eight episodes is smart enough to let Reacher off the leash at least once to punish bullies, save the day, or otherwise kick a little ass so as to restore balance to not just the show but the universe as a whole.” – Warren Cantrell, The Playlist

“Courtesy of Alan Ritchson’s stoic lead performance as the noble behemoth, it remains satisfyingly mean, macho, and – literally and figuratively – muscular.” – Nick Schager, The Daily Beast

“Reacher’s new season 3 buddy Susan Duffy makes a firm case as the strongest supporting character in the series to date, the action is therapeutically brutal, and it remains a righteous good time” – Luke Reilly, IGN

“After season 2’s expansion, season 3 feels more back to basics. Season 3 is a compelling blend of season 1’s small-town setting and feel while maintaining the explosive and intense action set pieces from season 2” – Greg MacArthur, Screen Rant

“It’s ultraviolent and unrepentantly macho but laced with enough wit to keep it the right side of silly. That’s where Reacher has the edge on ‘Dad TV’ rivals… Reacher has his tongue firmly lodged in his cheek and delivers rollicking entertainment with a knowing wink.” – Michael Hogan, The Telegraph

“Some formula tweaks and more ambitious direction going forward would not go amiss, but Reacher’s brand of stoic heroism is still sufficiently entertaining.” – Amon Warmann, Empire

“Reacher” is currently available worldwide on Amazon Prime Video.
