The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation have announced a February 28th premiere date on Max for the animated feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” which received mixed reviews. Set 183 years before the events of the original trilogy, it tells the fate of the legendary King of Rohan and the last stand that led to the legend of Helm’s Deep. [Source: Max]
Place in Hell
Oscar nominee Michelle Williams and Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones have signed on for the lead roles in the thriller drama “A Place in Hell” about two women working at a high-profile criminal law firm. Chloe Domont pens and directs the project which doesn’t have a distributor. [Source: Deadline]
Shadow Force
Lionsgate has announced a May 2nd 2025 official release date for the Joe Carnahan-directed action thriller “Shadow Force” starring Kerry Washington, Omar Sy, Mark Strong, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Yoson An, Natalia Reyes, Sala Baker and Cliff ‘Method Man’ Smith.
The story follows the ex-leaders of a multinational special forces group who went underground to protect their son. With a large bounty on their heads, and the vengeful Shadow Force hot on their trail, their fight becomes all-out war. [Source: Lionsgate]
Acquisitions
Apple Original Films is in talks to land the untitled UFO package that Joseph Kosinski is directing and Jerry Bruckheimer producing, a film said to be in the vein of “All the President’s Men”.
Wes Miller’s “Black Heat” starring Jason Mitchell which will be released in U.S. cinemas on March 28th. The story follows two parents who, failing to get help from authorities, go on a suicide mission to rescue their fifteen-year-old daughter from the enigmatic King David.
Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to the action-thriller “40 Acres” starring Danielle Deadwyler and Michael Greyeyes. The project hails from debut filmmaker R.T. Thorne, who wrote the script with Glenn Taylor releasing in the early Summer. [Source: Deadline]
Among Us 3D
The “Among Us VR” game is being released as a non-VR title – “Among Us 3D”. The game will allow fans of the series to play the first-person version of the game without the need of a VR headset. No release date has yet been set. As the title is essentially the same game in VR and non-VR, it should allow for cross-platform play. The VR version was released on Quest 2 and Steam VR in 2022.
