“The Gorge” Sets Apple Film Launch Record

The Scott Derrickson-directed high-concept monster thriller “The Gorge” has become the biggest film launch to date on the Apple TV+ service.

Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy star as snipers and guardians posted to watchtowers overlooking a mysterious gorge in an unknown location. Their sole task? To prevent the creatures within the gorge from getting out.

The film blends genres of not just creature feature and action but also romance, horror, conspiracy thriller and more. It debuted on the service on Friday February 14th.

The film’s launch week numbers have reportedly eclipsed those of George Clooney and Brad Pitt-led “Wolfs”.

Apple didn’t go into specifics, only confirming it had the biggest film premiere in Apple TV+ history, easily eclipsing the George Clooney-Brad Pitt-starrer “Wolfs”, along with driving double-digit growth globally for the service.

It has also reportedly boosted new viewers by over 80% in its launch weekend as compared to the weekend before.

The news follows on from “Severance” reportedly eclipsing “Ted Lasso” to become the most viewed series in the history of the streamer.
