“Cloverfield 2” Is Still Coming Says Anvari

Appearing at SXSW to promote his new film “Hallow Road,” filmmaker Babak Anvari confirms he’s set to direct a new sequel to 2008’s “Cloverfield”.

Chatting with Countdown City Geeks, he was asked if he could share anything about the new film to which he says:

“So sad that I cannot because everyone on that team is very secretive, which I understand. But whatever happens, just know that hopefully you’re going to get something amazing.”

Anvari, who broke through with Iranian ghost story “Under the Shadow,” has been attached to direct the film since December 2022 with “The Ritual,” “Black Doves” and “The Lazarus Project” writer Joe Barton tackling the script.

J.J. Abrams is producing for Bad Robot, along with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen while Bryan Burk, Matt Reeves, and Drew Goddard are also attached as executive producers.

The movie is reportedly a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’s original 2008 found-footage horror film as opposed to the more anthology-style sequels like “10 Cloverfield Lane” and “The Cloverfield Paradox”.

Anvari couldn’t reveal any details, he does say his excitement about the project is “high”.
