Vertical has set an August 22nd nationwide theatrical release for the Ron Howard-directed fact-based survival thriller “Eden” starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl and Sydney Sweeney. The film follows a group of WW2 survivors who try to start over and build paradise on the Galapagos Islands – it doesn’t go well.
Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson as MMA fighter Mark Kerr, has set a theatrical release date of October 3rd 2025 via its distributor A24. The film, which also stars Emily Blunt, takes the release slot currently set for the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” which is widely expected to be moved into 2026.
Last Friday
Ice Cube has reportedly reached a deal to both write and star in “Last Friday,” a fourth entry in the “Friday” movie franchise at Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema. It marks the first film in the series in over twenty years. The third film, “Friday After Next,” opened back in 2002.
While Cube has spoken about his desire to make another “Friday” before, that an agreement has been reached marks a major milestone in the project’s development. [Source: Variety]
Netflix
Netflix has expanded its language availability options on TVs. From April 2nd, users will now be able to toggle among the 30-plus languages available in the catalog for dubs and subtitles via TVs and TV-connected streaming devices – as opposed to the region-specific five or six versions previously available.
That brings those versions up to spec with mobile devices and web browsers where the full complement of languages has been available. Nearly one-third of all viewing on Netflix is of non-English shows and films. [Source: Advanced Television]
Office Romance
The full cast has been announced for Ol Parker’s “Office Romance,” a new Netflix rom-com film led by Jennifer Lopez (“Marry Me”) and Emmy winner Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”). Filming is now underway but plot specifics from Goldstein and Joe Kelly’s script are under wraps.
The cast will include Roger Bart, Brian Gallivan, Betty Gilpin, Lisa Gilroy, Tony Hale, Rick Hoffman, Michelle Hurd, Edward James Olmos, Natalie Ortega, Tony Plana, Jackie Sandler, Will Sasso, Amy Sedaris, Scott Seiss, Ali Stroker, Donald Elise Watkins, Mo Welch, Bradley Whitford, Jodie Whittaker and Mary Wiseman. Neighborhood Watch
RLJE Films has released the official trailer for Duncan Skiles’ crime thriller “Neighborhood Watch” starring Jack Quaid, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Cecile Cubiló, Jim Klock, Harrison Stone, Creek Wilson and Kendall Wakefield. The film hits cinemas and VOD on April 25th.
The story follows Simon (Quaid), a young man grappling with mental illness who enlists the help of his retired security guard neighbor (Morgan) to help him find a missing girl who was abducted by an unknown man. Their investigation leads them to uncover bigger secrets and deal with their own wounds.
