Paramount Pictures had a relatively subdued CinemaCon presentation this morning, questions over how it will look in the future post-Skydance merger still linger. As a result they only a few films either in production or readying it with plans to release between now and early 2027.
Confirmed to be coming in 2026 will be the currently filming “Scream 7,” David Ayer’s Brad Pitt-led “Heart of the Beast” which is filming in New Zealand, Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “Children of Blood and Bone” currently shooting in South Africa, the already shot untitled Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Kendrick Lamar project aiming for March 2026.
Also on the way is the animated “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender,” the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” sequel, and “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” which opens early 2027. Another film, “Regretting You,” is shooting now but is aiming to be out before the end of the year – specifically October 25th.
Several titles did show off footage:
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie premiered an exclusive trailer for the next film with more of Ethan Hunt hanging from a bi-plane. As this is the final entry, the clip also serves as a tribute to past entries with plenty of call backs to all the previous films. Expect that final trailer online soon. Tom Cruise was also on hand at the presentation to ask for a moment of silence in tribute to Val Kilmer.
The Running Man
Edgar Wright reinterprets the Stephen King story, appearing on stage alongside stars Glenn Powell, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin to tout the film which just wrapped shooting a few weeks ago.
One key difference is the ‘game’ this time is very international as hired guns from all over the world are sent to execute Powell’s character. Action set pieces include a big hallway action fight and some elevator action involving a grenade – overall the aesthetic is much more contemporary than the previous Arnie film.
The SpongeBob Movie: The Search for SquarePants
Mark Hamill and Tom Kenny showed off a first look at Paramount Animation’s “The Spongebob Movie: The Search for Squarepants” with a live-action pirate telling a nautical tale of the Flying Dutchman (Mark Hamill) crossing paths with an innocent soul, Spongebob himself, who takes him and Patrick to the underworld where they must endure terrors beyond the sponge’s imagination.
Roofman
Channing Tatum appeared to tout the crime-drama “Roofman” from filmmaker Derek Cianfrance and also starring Uzo Aduba, Peter Dinklage and Juno Temple. Tatum plays the McDonald’s thief who goes into hiding in the ceiling of a department store and dates a single mother (Kirsten Dunst). Lakeith Stanfield plays a friend who helps him out and Dinklage plays a store manager. That film opens October 3rd.
