His BeeGees film stalled before it could go into production last Fall, but Ridley Scott isn’t lying around. Instead, the “Gladiator II” director is already prepping his next feature “The Dog Stars”.
Set to film next month, World of Reel is reporting that the plan is to fast track the film for a late 2025 release – not unusual for Scott who can shoot much larger scale historical epics in just 2-3 months.
In addition, they indicate Scott will have around 1000 extras on the film’s set, and 20th Century Studios is giving him a budget of over $100 million – something they indicate was key to him signing on.
The film is an adaptation of Peter Heller’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic novel with Jacob Elordi to star as Hig, a widowed pilot and one of the few survivors in a world devastated by a global pandemic.
Hig leads a solitary existence in an airplane hangar, with only his dog and a gruff gunman for company. His quiet life is suddenly disrupted when he intercepts a mysterious transmission on his Cessna radio, sparking a journey to uncover its origin.
Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce also star in the film which Scott directs a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith (“Twisters,” “The Revenant”). That budget is still considerably cheaper than Scott’s last two films with “Napoleon” and “Gladiator II” both costing considerably over $200 million.
The 87-year-old has at least six other projects in development including “Freewalkers,” “Battle of Britain” and “Bomb”.
