Cumberbatch Joins Fukunaga’s “Blood on Snow”

Benedict Cumberbatch will join Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Eva Green, Emma Laird and Ben Mendelsohn in filmmaker Cary Fukunaga’s “Blood on Snow”.

Cumberbatch will replace Tom Hardy who was previously on board to star and produce but has had to exit the project over a scheduling conflict.

The film is based on “Headhunters” and “The Snowman” author Jo Nesbo’s crime thriller novel.

Taylor-Johnson plays Olav, a cold, efficient hitman with an unwavering moral code in 1970s Oslo – a city in the midst of a gang war. When gang leader Hoffman orders his own wife to be murdered, Olav’s principles clash with his loyalties.

He hatches a scheme that makes him the next target and with nowhere safe to turn, Olav forms an uneasy alliance putting him right in the middle of the conflict. Cumberbatch will play The Fisherman, the leader of the rival gang.

Fukunaga, coming off helming the last Daniel Craig Bond film with “No Time to Die,” will direct the project from a script Nesbo wrote with revisions by Ben Power.

Hardy, Fukunaga, Nesbo, Niclas Salomonsson, Hayden Lautenbach, Mike Larocca, and Michael Schaefer produce. Filming begins at the end of the month in Latvia.
