Filmmaker Osgood Perkins is out there promoting his “The Monkey” horror movie which is still currently in cinemas, and a recent discussion prompted some answers that have got people talking.
Perkins recently participated in a Reddit AMA where he tackled a number of topics brought up by fans. Asked about potentially doing a James Bond film for example, he curtly responded: “No because f— Jeff Bezos.”
It was when he was asked if there was a story he wish he could do if given the budget or technology to make it. His answer? “The collected dreams and nightmares of Darth Vader told as short stories.”
That response has drawn a bunch of excited discussion, with people loving the idea of a visit into Anakin Skywalker’s shattered mind.
Perkins was also asked if there was any book he would adapt for the screen, what would it be. His answer? John Fowles’ 1965 novel “The Magus”. That work follows a young aspiring British poet stuck in a dull teaching job on a Greek island. He slowly is drawn into the psychological games of a wealthy recluse and soon loses his grip on reality.
Perkins previously did an interesting “Hansel and Gretel” reimagining so he was asked what fairy tale would he like to adapt for the screen. He says: “The Juniper Tree.” One of the darkest Brothers Grimm tales, it deals with a woman murdering her stepson and a magical bird, and tackles themes of child abuse, cannibalism and filicide.
Head on over to Reddit for the full Q&A.
