“Vertigo” Remake Is Currently Being Written

Two years ago came the news that Paramount Pictures was set to remake the iconic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock-directed psychological thriller “Vertigo” with Robert Downey Jr. reportedly eyeing the James Stewart lead role.

The original film follows a former police detective forced to retire after a line of duty trauma leaves him with intense acrophobia. He is soon hired by an acquaintance to shadow his wife (Kim Novak), who he feels is behaving erratically.

The film is often cited as one of the greatest films ever made and regularly sits high on all-time best film polls. “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is set to pen the script for the remake, and now the scribe has offered an update on where things stand with the movie.

Knight was asked by The Direct this week if the film was still in development with Downey Jr. He responded:

“It’s swirling around in my head as we speak. I’m having flashbacks to about an hour ago when I was writing. It’s an interesting – I mean, of course, people consider it the best film ever made.

So you’d have to be an idiot to adapt it, and so that’s what I am… but, you know, I like stuff like that. I like it. It’s just so weird to try and do it and just give it a go. Taking that plot apart is like diffusing a second World War time bomb. It’s all over. It’s very complex, but it’s what’s occupying my waking hours.”

John Davis and John Fox are producing alongside Robert and Susan Downey with the project set up at Paramount which was home to the original film.
