Shults To Direct “Altered States” Remake?

“Krisha,” “It Came At Night” and “Waves” director Trey Edward Shults is reportedly attached to direct a remake of the 1980 film “Altered States” at Warner Bros. Pictures reports World of Reel.

Robert Pattinson has been attached to star in the project for several years, but no further casting has been mentioned at present.

The original film was directed by the infamous Ken Russell (“The Devils,” “The Lair of the White Worm”) and penned by Paddy Chayefsky (“Network”). Widely rejected at the time, it has since become a cult classic in some circles.

William Hurt starred in the original film as a scientist who uses sensory deprivation and psychedelic drugs to explore the limits of human consciousness.

Those experiments lead to profound and terrifying mental and physical transformations, blurring the line between reality and madness.

The question is when would Pattinson film the project as he’s currently shooting “Primetime,” joins “The Odyssey” shoot next month, will promote several films and then begin production on “The Batman Part II” this Fall.
