“The Conjuring” and “Aquaman” star Patrick Wilson has entered early negotiations to join the new “Cape Fear” TV series for the Apple TV+ service, taking the third key role alongside Amy Adams and Javier Bardem.
Nick Antosca (“A Friend of the Family,” “The Act”) is writing and will showrun the ten-episode series which has a full order and green light at the streamer.
Dubbed a ‘tense, Hitchcockian thriller’ and ‘examination of America’s 21st century obsession with true crime,’ the film otherwise retains the story of two happily married attorneys, Anna Bowden (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson), who face a growing storm when a notorious killer from their past named Max Cady (Bardem) gets out of prison.
The new take is based on the novel “The Executioners” which was the source material for the 1962 film with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum. It will also be heavily inspired by the 1991 adaptation directed by Martin Scorsese which starred Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis.
Oscar-winning filmmakers Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are set to serve as executive producers.
Wilson has recently wrapped up production on the final main installment of “The Conjuring” franchise titled ‘Last Rites’ which opens this September. He’s currently slated to film the movie “Jay Kelly” alongside George Clooney.
