Fincher, Tarantino, Pitt Team For “Once” Sequel

Though initially dismissed by some as an April Fool’s joke, it has turned out to be real – filmmaker David Fincher and Brad Pitt are teaming with Quentin Tarantino for a sequel/spin-off to Tarantino’s acclaimed 2019 film “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” it would seem.

The Playlist broke the exclusive, saying the project is the screenplay that Tarantino’s originally planned tenth directorial effort “The Movie Critic” evolved into with the writer exploring the further adventures of Pitt’s stuntman character Cliff Booth from the 2019 film.

Sources for the outlet indicate that while Tarantino doesn’t want to direct it, he didn’t want the script languishing around and so approached Fincher with the opportunity.

Fincher has a first-look deal at Netflix. and so the streamer reportedly put together the deal with a budget rumored to be quite high – in the ballpark of $200 million. Over $20 million was already reportedly spent on obtaining Tarantino’s script.

Fincher and Pitt then opted to put aside everything they’re working on right now to the side to make this the priority with Fincher directing and Pitt starring. Things are moving so fast that the plan is to shoot the project this July in California.

Further casting is expected to be announced shortly with no-one else set, so it’s not clear if anyone else like Leonardo DiCaprio or Margot Robbie will return for a cameo or supporting role. The outlet claims Robbie’s reps have said “she’s available if they need her”.

The Insneider then posted his own report saying this is the rumoured “sequel to a film he didn’t direct” project Fincher and Pitt were linked to a few weeks ago and that DiCaprio is in talks to return. He also confirmed on X this is not a joke.

Then Deadline subsequently checked with their courses and confirmed the project but cautions that “It is not certain this will all work out, and it seems unlikely that DiCaprio will take part in this one.”
