Brand New Return For Tour After Eight-Year Break
2000s-era emo/rock outfit Brand New will tour for the first time in eight years this summer.

2000s-era emo/rock outfit Brand New will tour for the first time in eight years this summer, when the Jesse Lacey-led group will visit a combination of ballrooms, arenas, amphitheaters and stadiums. Dates begin May 30 in Seattle and run through June 25 in Pittsburgh.
Brand New played a private warmup show in December in Nashville and recently completed three one-off gigs in Dallas, Newport, Ky., and Nashville. The set lists featured six songs from 2006’s The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me and five from 2017’s Science Fiction, plus several selections each from 2003’s Deja Entendu and 2009’s Daisy.

“The hardy Long Island lugs in Brand New might be the only guys in emo who still care more about Rites of Spring than they do about Weezer,” SPIN wrote of Daisy at the time.
The group toured consistently following the release of that project, but took a long break from the studio until the arrival of Science Fiction. On the 2017 tour in support of it, Brand New lurched to a nearly immediate halt when Lacey was accused of sexual misconduct by a series of women, some of whom said he’d solicited nude photos of them at a time when they were still underage.
“I am sorry for how I have hurt people, mistreated them, lied and cheated,” he responded at the time. “I am sorry for ignoring the way in which my position, status and power as a member of a band affected the way people viewed me or their approach to their interactions with me. And I am sorry for how often I have not afforded women the respect, support or honesty that they deserved, and which is their right. I believe in the equality and autonomy of all, but in my life I have been more of a detriment to these ideals than an advocate.”
