Citybox Hotels has signed an agreement with CapMan to open a new Citybox hotel in Kastrup, Copenhagen, featuring 240 rooms. The hotel will be Citybox’s first in Denmark and marks an important milestone in the company’s continued expansion across Europe.
Until renovations begin, Citybox will take over operations of the current Best Western Plus Copenhagen Airport starting April 1, 2025. Initially, the hotel will continue to operate in its existing form, before undergoing major renovations and reopening as a Citybox hotel.
The agreement follows CapMan’s acquisition of Midstar’s hotel portfolio, which includes 28 hotels with a total of 4,709 rooms across Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. The transaction is the largest in the Nordic hotel segment to date. In connection with the property acquisition, Citybox has entered into a long-term management agreement with CapMan for the operation of the hotel.
“We appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit of Citybox and their solution-oriented approach and look forward to shaping the property together into a great Citybox hotel. Having all essential amenities nearby and being just one metro stop away from the airport with direct access to the city centre, the hotel will become a natural hub for budget conscious travellers who value convenience,” says Thomas Laakso, Partner at CapMan Real Estate and Fund Director of CapMan Hotels II fund.
The timeline for renovations will depend on planning processes and required approvals. It is therefore too early to confirm an exact start date, but Citybox expects the new hotel to open during 2026.
“This marks a significant and long-awaited step for Citybox – with this signing, we have reached an important milestone in our ambition to establish a presence in all the Scandinavian capitals. Copenhagen has long been a key target market for us, and this hotel is a strong addition to our growing portfolio. We sincerely appreciate the trust CapMan has placed in us, and we look forward to a long and successful partnership,” says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox Hotels.
“The location in Kastrup is ideal for Citybox. With close proximity to the metro, airport, and parking, the hotel will appeal to a wide range of travelers – whether they are looking to explore Copenhagen or simply want affordable accommodation close to Copenhagen Airport. Denmark is an exciting market for us, and we hope this will be just the beginning of our presence here,” Hjulstad concludes.
