Australian artist Zita Walker illustrated cinematic roadside attraction signs for her “Roadside” exhibit at Gallery 1988.
The locations on the virtual trip include the Bates Motel from Psycho, Camp Crystal Lake from Friday the 13th, Lone Star Motel from Joy Ride, and Blockbuster.
Beyond the horror genre, the gallery also includes The Holiday Inn from The Blues Brothers, McDowell’s from Coming to America, and The Krusty Krab from “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
“Hailing from Sydney, Zita is enthusiastic about dusk skies and neon signs. She makes art as a cozy escape, creating glowy moments that she wishes she were a part of. A full-time designer, illustration is her way of winding down, an extension of her frequent day-dreaming,” Gallery 1988 writes.
“This year, Zita met her goal of visiting 100 diners across North America, a regular theme in her art due to their comforting atmosphere and nostalgic decor. When creating her illustrations, Zita is really just fantasizing about being down a lost highway underneath the glow of an ‘Open Forever’ sign.”
12×15 giclee prints on archival paper are $35 each.
