Eidos Montreal announced it will lay off 75 employees
In the statement from Eidos Montreal today, the studio announced up to 75 of its members would be impacted by layoffs. Specifics on who this will affect are still unknown. The given reasoning for the redundancies is that the developer no longer has “the capacity to entirely reallocate them” to other projects. The company assures this has nothing to do with the skills or dedication of those impacted and states they will work to support them as they find new work.
“Today, we informed our studio staff that we are going to let go up to 75 valuable members, as one of our mandates is coming to an end,” reads the statement. “It is not a reflection of their dedication or skills, but unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to entirely reallocate them to our other ongoing projects and services.”
“These very talented, highly experienced experts are going to enter the employment market, and we are working to support them through this transition. Eidos-Montréal stays committed to deliver its other projects currently in development.”
This round of layoffs comes just over a year since its last. Back in January last year, Eidos Montreal confirmed 97 employees were let go due to “the global economic context.” At the same time, it was reported that its parent company, Embracer Group, had canceled a new video game in the Deus Ex series.
Eidos Montreal is perhaps most known for its work on the Deus Ex and Tomb Raider franchises. The company also developed 2014’s Thief and 2021’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. In June last year, it announced it is aiding PlayGround Games as a support studio for the upcoming Xbox game Fable.
