Sony Pictures just held its big CinemaCon presentation tonight in Las Vegas with filmmaker Danny Boyle on hand to introduce an intense new trailer for his highly anticipated “28 Years Later” film.
Speaking on stage, Boyle says each movie in the new trilogy works fine on their own as standalone films but they are linked together as well.
Also confirmed is that Cillian Murphy will be returning to the franchise on screen in the trilogy, but Boyle advises: “You may have to wait a bit to see him though”.
In terms of returning to the franchise, Boyle says: “I still love an apocalypse, British style. I love killing the infected (zombies if you like). And I still love blowing s— up.”
The trailer itself opens with a group of armored mercernaries in a dark cave who are attacked by the infected. There are glimpses of a major bridge filled with infected and shown from above, various deaths, and an ending with the infected breaking into a church and attacking a priest.
The general premise seems to be that an island off the coast has managed to avoid becoming infected over the years and members of a village are fighting off new attacks. It’s also hinted that anyone who goes to the mainland is on their own with no chance of rescue.
Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes all feature prominently in the clip which will hopefully be released online soon. “28 Years Later” opens June 20th.
