Max has officially announced an April 13th premiere date for the second season of its TV series adaptation of the acclaimed game series “The Last of Us”.
Presuming it will run continuously, that means the show will wrap its seven-episode second season run on Memorial Day Weekend on May 25th (or a week later on June 1st) if the network opts to skip the holiday).
Additionally, a trio of new posters has been released featuring Pedro Pascal’s Joel, Bella Ramsey’s Ellie and Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby all walking on different objects that are key to them – Joel’s watch, Ellie’s guitar, and Abby’s Fireflies medallion.
The new season will be based on the first part of “The Last of Us Part II” game that hit PS5 in 2020 and is coming to PC on April 3rd, just days before the second season premiere.
Whereas that game had a unique storytelling structure which jumped around in time, this one seems to follow a more linear narrative – focusing on adapting the Jackson/Day 1 parts of the game.
The second season will explore the ramifications of Joel’s actions in the first season finale, as he and Ellie have made new lives for themselves in Jackson.
Those actions have consequences that are about to change their lives forever. The introduction of Abby, a key character who will impact Joel and Ellie’s lives in unimaginable ways, will make this possible.
Gabriel Luna, Rutina Wesley, Young Manzino, Isabela Merced, Jeffrey Isaac, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Danny Ramirez and Catherine O’Hara co-star in the new run.
