HazeLight founder Josef Fares has responded to reports that the studio’s recent game Split Fiction is set to be turned into a Hollywood blockbuster.
Co-op title Split Fiction was released earlier this year and became one of the best-reviewed games of 2025, as well as shifting more than two million units.
Last month it was reported by Variety that the rights for a movie adaptation of the game had become the subject of a bidding war. However Fares isn’t convinced a Split Fiction movie will ever happen.
“You know what I say? I believe it when I see it, because nothing has happened yet,” Fares told Variety. “It would be nice if it happened, but again, I’ll believe it when I see it. Sometimes there’s a lot of talks, but nothing happens. So we will see.”
It comes after his previous game, 2021’s It Takes Two, was also set to be turned into a film. In 2023, it was announced Amazon had acquired the distribution rights to the project, with Dwayne Johnson one of the producers and Pat Casey and Josh Miller [the writing duo behind the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movies] working on the script.
“There’s a lot of talk, but not a lot of walk,” Fares said about the It Takes Two film earlier this year (via Eurogamer). “I don’t know what’s going on. Hopefully something. It would be cool to get something out of it, but my hopes are not so high. Obviously, there’s a lot of talk, but you have to have the people that get shit done. “Hollywood, there’s so much bullshit,” he continued. “I think 90 per cent of the meetings are actually bullshit, and ten percent are what actually happens.”
Fares has already confirmed HazeLight is working on a new game. “I believe we can top Split Fiction, that’s how confident we are in what we’re doing,” he explained. “People are very happy and excited at Hazelight. We feel like we can do better and I’m super, super excited.”
In other news, Call Of Duty has shared the patch notes for Black Ops 6’s upcoming season three – and it includes a long-requested feature to help stop cheats.
