Promotion: as part of its Arts Month 2025 programming, local developer and property manager Swire Properties is supporting several installations throughout Hong Kong in collaboration with Art Basel Hong Kong.

Swire Properties Arts Month 2025 programming includes several installations and performances by global artists and performers, including giant lantern fly sculptures and a solar system made using traditional Pakistani embroidery.

The exhibitions take place throughout Hong Kong from March to April 2025 and reflect Swire Properties' "commitment to sustainability", according to Swire Properties chief executive Tim Blackburn.

"This year's theme is especially meaningful as it aligns with our commitment to sustainability and contributes perfectly to our placemaking efforts," said Blackburn.

"As Hong Kong continues to raise its profile as an international hub for arts and culture, we're proud to support the city's efforts and bolster the creative industries, while continuing our mission of making art and culture a part of everyday life," Blackburn continued.

Swire Properties programming includes six installations and performances, including the Swire Properties' VIP Lounge 'Intersection' at Art Basel Hong Kong, located at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Designed by Hong Kong architecture firm A:I, the lounge is made of a timber lattice canopy and steel floor using upcycled materials from previous Swire Properties, with plans to use the materials again after its Art Basel installation.

Nearby, Monster Chetwynd's Lanternfly Ballet sculpture is placed in a plaza at the Pacific Place shopping centre. The installation is part of Art Basel Hong Kong's Encounters project and is the only off-site project as part of the fair.

The three, oversized colourful lantern fly sculptures pay homage to the insect, which is native to Hong Kong. On selected dates, dancers will perform around the pieces, "encouraging exploration, interaction, and total immersion".

Artist Sara Shakeel has created a solar system using traditional Pakastani embroidery

A solar system made using traditional Pakistani embroidery by Pakistani artist Sara Shakeel is also on show. The installation – which takes place at office and event building Taikoo Place in ArtisTree – is called The Jewel System, which is described as "a life-sized reinterpretation of the solar system as a living and 'intimate' experience using centuries-old embroidery".

Along with her solar system installation, Shakeel presents the Genesis in Jewels installation, which will "reconceptualise the very spark of existence" using an interplay of light and crystals.

Elsewhere, Swire Properties hotel – The Upper House – is also participating in the Arts Month programming.

It is hosting a live painting experience and performances by art group Random International in partnership with whiskey brand the Glen Grant, including an unveiling of the brand's rarest whiskeys.

Other programming supported by Swire Properties includes a three-part installation by French artist Caroline Tronel and a series of sculptures informed by the Greek sculpture Venus de Milo by French contemporary artist Laurent Perbos at the Starstreet Precinct.

This marks the 13 years of partnership between Swire Properties and art fair Art Basel Hong Kong, which held its first edition in the region in 2013.
